The annual Vippie Celebration was held at the theater on June 18, starting with a scrumptious dessert smorgasbord. The Vippies are a time honored tradition of recognizing and applauding our hard working production staff volunteers with their very own special award night. This years event was hosted by Nancy Janney and Joanne Toth, with Scott T. Gage providing the sometimes comical sound effects interspersed throughout the awards. Judy Wiederhold was the "hostess with the mostest" in arranging all the delectable desserts.
There were over one hundred individual names of production staff volunteers called to the stage to accept their Vippie Award in the categories of Directors, Producers, Set Design/Set Dressing/Set Construction, Stage Managers, Costumes, Lights/Sound, Props/Stage Crew, and House/Lobby. Each in attendance received a medallion with "Village Players Vippies" engraved on the back.
Two fun special Vippie awards were presented. Angela Metcalf was bestowed the traditional "Oh Sure Award." This award is given to a volunteer who always says, "Oh Sure!" whenever asked to help with anything at the theater. The other fun award this year was "The First Ever Fly Award", given to Jake Gordy, Ben Lumbrezer, and Matt Wiederhold. These three geniuses came up with an idea then devised a way to fly a rather large table down from the rafters for a scene change in A Little Night Music. They each received a plaque complete with a rubber fly.
Jake Gordy, president of the Village Players, announced the recipients of the two most prestigious awards of the Annual Vippie Celebration. John and Sondra Henry received the honored M.V.P. (Most
Village Player). This award is voted upon by the board members. Paige Price received the distinguished Presidents Award. Besides receiving their own engraved plaque, their names will be add to the plaques in the lobby.
The election of 2002-2003 Village Players officers and board members followed the Vippie Celebration.
