Since it’s opening in May, 1960, at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in New York, and its subsequent revival at the Snapple Theatre Center, The Fantasticks has become the longest running production of any kind in the history of American theatre. Synopsis
The Fantasticks! – the longest running musical in the history of theatre. Based loosely on “Les Romanesques” by Edmond Rostand, The Fantasticks! opened in New York City on May 3, 1960 and played 17,162 performances before closing January 13, 2002 … 42 years! There are a number of familiar songs such as “Try To Remember.”
