The Birds ran November 6 -21, 2015
Auditions will be Saturday, July 25 1pm – 4pm and Sunday, July 26 1pm – 4pm.
A suspenseful, atmospheric adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s enthralling short story. Mysterious masses of birds have begun to violently attack at high tide, driving strangers Nat and Diane to take refuge in an isolated, abandoned house by the sea and form a bond to survive their haunting new circumstance. With no electricity and scarce food, the tension is palpable and hope is waning. Yet if two is company, three is a crowd, as the sudden arrival of a young woman with a mysterious nature of her own ruffles feathers in the house and quickly threatens to destroy their so-called sanctuary.

Jennifer Nagy Lake
(Diane) Jennifer has an extensive résumé spanning over thirty years of comedy, drama, music, and minor league big-time wrestling. Most recently she performed in The JunkBox original musical House of Vinyl
, Glacity’s The American Dream and The Sandbox
, and as Lady Macbeth in some Shakespeare play. She was last seen on The Village stage in Murder Among Friends
directed by Jennifer Rockwood. She is married to The Timothy Lake and is mom to an equally dramatic and beautiful daughter, and spends her days as an independent insurance agent in Perrysburg. Jennifer is quite seriously thrilled to be among such accomplished artists. Thank you.
(Nat) is thrilled to be back on stage at The Village. Last season, he was Morris in The Heiress
, and Reggie in Quartet
. John would like to dedicate this show to his close friend and frequent director—Jennifer Rockwood. Two favorites quotes of hers “acting, shmacting. Just be pretty” and “a good director casts well so she can sit and drink wine”. She was a force of nature, and her impact still resounds through the Toledo theatre community.
(Julia) is thrilled to perform in her 6th production at The Village. Recent area productions include: The Heiress
(Catherine) and Impossible Marriage
(Floral) with The Village; Blithe Spirit
(Ruth), The Laramie Project
, I Hate Hamlet
(Deirdre), and Inventing van Gogh
(Hallie) with The Rep; and The Mousetrap
(Mollie) with The Valentine Studio A Theatre. When not indulging her love of the stage, Marissa works as an elementary school counselor. Marissa would like to thank the entire Birds team for helping bring this story to life, her family for supporting and understanding her passion for theatre, and Justin and Jack for loving her for the character she is, as well as the many she has become over the years. Enjoy the show!
John Klenk (Tierney) Native Toledoan John F. Klenk returns to the stage after his recent performances in An Adult Evening with Shel Silverstein and Rapture, Blister, Burn. John made his theatrical debut in Anchorage, Alaska in 2009. He has also appeared in several films and TV commercials. In his spare time, John enjoys painting, sculpting, and tequila.
